First, let’s talk about hair.
If you have been reading this blog since I started it 3 months ago, you may know how crazy I am about growing my hair into a big bad and healthy afro. I underwent the Big Chop (BC) last December.

In this picture, half of my hair was still relaxed. I hadn’t completely cut off the relaxed hair because my natural hair was still quite short and I needed to braid it
There is a regimen I am following. You can read what I am doing in my hair journey here.
So, the day before yesterday (Tuesday) was take-out-braids day! hoot hoot! I was super excited to see how long my hair had grown. It is now 100% natural. I cut the relaxed remnants off in January and I am now a proud natural head!
Then came the daunting dilemma. Whether to shower first, or wash my hair first. Anyone else struggle with the order in which they should do things? No? Okay, maybe I have mild OCD. I obsess over the order in which things should be done. A decision was made. Wash the hair first. Because I didn’t want all the grime from my head falling onto my clean body. Makes sense yes?
I bought a few new products for my baby (read hair).

clockwise from top left: V05 hot oil, TreSemme shampoo, wide toothed detangling comb, Organics conditioner
I pre-pooed with the V05 hot oil. That stuff seals hair like a miracle! Love it. Then shampooed and washed with the TreSemme shampoo. Guys, TreSemme is what heaven smells like. I promise!! Conditioned, and I was done. I use products for dry and damaged hair, not because my hair is damaged but I just feel that they are best for the brittle hair black people have. I patted the hair dry and moisturised using castor oil, then blow-dried it a bit to straighten it. Shrinkage. *sigh* #BlackPeopleProblems.
I had to make little matuta (braids) before I slept because well, I need an afro….
….and when I sleep I don’t want to wake up with the sides of my head looking like this….
The end result was a beautiful afro! I really really am loving it. My hair is super kinky and I had said I’d braid it right away, but you know what? I am wearing it like this for a while.
I really like how everything is going. Although the dryness of natural hair is a bit annoying cuz my hair=sandy soil. It’s also quite uneven because my hair at the back of my head grows faster than anywhere else. But I am all about quantity and not quality right now. Right now, length is a priority. We can trim it when I’ve got more length on.
Now let’s talk about piercings.
I got my tragus piercing 7 months ago and I love love love it! It’s almost totally healed. Almost. Piercings are such hard work. I had sworn to not get another after the tragus, but in the recent past I have found myself toying with the idea of another ear piercing. Rook, forward helix and double helix were on top of the list.
I really really liked how a double helix looked against a tragus piercing…
… and so the double helix it was!!
I got it right after my vector calculus tutorial. I love it.
Now to get it to heal beautifully. 12months. sheeesh.
Have a beautiful day!
